Son of Grace Vineyard sits on the deep sandy ridges of Quantong mid-way between the northern tip of the Grampians and Mt Arapiles in Western Victoria.  Quantong was once home to the largest stone fruit industry in Victoria and while the peach and apricot trees are all but gone, the soil and climate is still capable of producing high quality fruit.

What started as a passion and a hobby for Don McRae, a local Horsham vigneron has grown into a fledgling wine business producing premium quality wines of unique style and distinction.

Don completed a Wine Science degree at Charles Sturt University in 2000 after 6 years of par time study while working full time at Wimmera Base Hospital in charge of the Emergency Department.  Don and wife Liz planted the first vines at Son of Grace in 2002.

In 2004 Don put his winemaking talents to work for Mt Stapylton Vineyard, and Mt Stayplton Shiraz, was born.

Over the past decade Don has built a reputation for quality wine both locally and internationally.  The 2006 Mt Stapylton Shiraz won gold at the International Wine and Spirit Competition in London and 2009 Mt Satpylton Shiraz won gold at the International Wine Competition in Vienna Austria. Recently the 2012 Mount Stapylton Shiraz won a silver medal at the Syrah Du Monde wine competition in Paris.

Our goal is to produce wines that are recognised both nationally and globally for their unique characters and excellent quality.

As of today, husband and wife team, Don & Liz, continue to be passionate about sustainable practices in the vineyard and natural fermentation techniques.  We would like to share with you the fruits of our labour.
